John Green

harpsichord

John Green was an organ pupil of Conrad Eden at Durham Cathedral and read Music at the University of Nottingham under Ivor Keys. He divides his time between his position as Director of Music at Hexham Abbey in Northumberland, and teaching and examining for the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music. He appears regularly as continuo player and soloist with the Northern Sinfonia, Quadro Adriano and other period instrument groups.

At Hexham Abbey he is fortunate in playing the only organ in the UK built by the distinguished American organ designer and builder, Lawrence Phelps, now living in Boston. He has worked with Christoph Wald on many previous occasions, both in the context of concerts by the Avison Ensemble, a Newcastle-based period instrument group, and in solo recitals. He has given many concerts in France - a country with whose music he feels a particular affinity - as well as all over the UK. He plays a collection of three harpsichords and a clavichord, all by Dennis Woolley of Dent in Cumbria, and a chamber organ by Lammermuir Pipe Organs of Oldhamstocks, near Edinburgh.
