Born in Hampshire, U.K., Miranda learnt both violin and piano in her early childhood and later studied both instruments at the Royal Academy of Music with the violinist Hugh Maguire, and the pianist Peter Uppard. Her subsequent studies in Sandor Vegh's master-classes at the Mozarteum in Salzburg led her to work with Vegh's 'Camerata Academica', with which she made several recordings and toured all over Europe. She was then invited to lead the Munich Soloists Ensemble an dalso performed regularly with the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra. As leader of the Matrix Ensemble, a group specialising in music of the 1930's and 1940's as well as in contemporary music, she has made several CD's and performed throughout Europe and the USA. Also in the contemporary field, she has frequently guest - led the Birmingham Contemporary Music Group and is leader of the Almeida Ensemble in London. Her interest in the use of period instruments has led her to perform regularly with the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment and the Orchestre Revolutionnaire et Romantique, with whom she has appeared as guest leader and made many recordings. During the last few years she has performed frequently in Italy as soloist with the Da Ponte Ensemble, and in London was soloist and co-director of the Feinstein Ensemble from 1996-2001. In Spring 2001 she gave several performances at Carnegie Hall, New York City, with the London Sinfonietta, and has also appeared as soloist and leader of the East of England Orchestra. Her collaboration with the pianist, Clive Williamson, began during the early days of the Matrix Ensemble and since then they have performed together frequently, both as a Duo and also as members of the Almeida Ensemble. Their latest project, "Project XXV", involves a study of works for violin and piano written during the last quarter century, and will comprise performances, workshops and recordings around the UK and in several European cities. |
