Timothy Merton's career as cellist has spanned both sides of the Atlantic. His teachers have included Jean Goberman, Lief Rosanoff, and Madeleine Foley. He studied at the Mannes College of Music in New York and the Royal College of Music in London. From 1989 to 1996 he lived in England, where he began performing with many of the leading early-music ensembles and orchestras, including the English Baroque Soloists, the Orchestre Révolutionnaire et Romantique, and the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment. He has recorded on the Sony Classical, Deutsche Grammophon, and Phillips labels. His performances have taken him to diverse audiences around the world, from Radio Nanjing, China, and the dalit Peoples Orgnaization, Bangalore, India, to the Orquesta Sinfonica de Sevilla, Spain, and the Glyndebourne Festival UK. Now living in Cambridge, Massachusetts, Timothy is a guest performer in a variety of ensembles in both the USA and Europe. He is the artistic director of the Sarasa Ensemble. |
