Sarasa Ensemble Instrument Aid Program

Providing musical instruments to children

In the course of Sarasa's Outreach Concerts, both in the USA as well as India and Cuba, it became apparent that the many children and young adults who have responded to classical music, are limited in pursuing that interest by a lack of instruments, bows, or the means to repair their instruments. Consequently, Sarasa has established a program to supply instrument aid.

How you can help

Monetary contributions go towards instrument and bow repairs.

  • $5 will provide horsehair for a bow
  • $30 will purchase a set of strings for a violin
  • $45 will purchase a set of strings for a viola
  • $80 will purchase a set of strings for a cello
  • $200 will purchase a bow
  • $500 will buy a child-sized violin
  • $600 will buy a child-sized viola
  • $800 will buy a child-sized cello

Donations of instruments

Do you have an instrument or bow which you no longer use that you would like to donate to a child? Recorders, violins, violas, cellos, oboes, and bows would open up a whole new world to a child. You can make a difference in the quality of childrens' lives. Contact Sarasa if you have an instrument to donate.

All contibutions, at any level are appreciated. Instruments and bows are distributed by Sarasa to children in New England as they become available.

Consignments to Indian and Cuban children are delivered personally by Sarasa musicians on their tours. In October 2000, bows and strings were delivered to children at the National School of Music in Havana. This school is dedicated to training the best music students in Cuba (aged 12-18 years) yet they are hampered by lack of supplies. Our gifts were greatly appreciated.
